Choose the support, then the format

Online and in-person describe where the relationship happens; they do not tell you how much support is included. Start by asking what you need from a coach and how you want to receive feedback.

Put it into practiceSomeone who wants supervision during each session has a different requirement from someone who mainly wants a programme and scheduled reviews. Make that distinction before comparing packages.

Online coaching: clarity between check-ins

Online coaching can organise training around your own schedule, depending on the service. Its practical strength is that the plan and review do not always have to happen at the same place or time.

Put it into practiceAsk how feedback works when the coach is not present. Clarify instructions, response times and what to do when an exercise or session needs changing. The phrase online coaching does not automatically include live video sessions.

In-person coaching: shared appointment time

An in-person appointment gives you scheduled time in the same setting as the coach. That can suit someone who values immediate conversation and supervision during the session.

Put it into practiceCheck travel, location, equipment and rescheduling rules. Also ask what happens between appointments: is there an independent plan, or does the package cover only the booked sessions?

Hybrid coaching: make the handover explicit

A hybrid service combines live appointments with independent work. It can be useful when you want regular contact alongside a plan for the other days, but the responsibilities need to be clear.

Put it into practiceAgree which sessions are supervised, what you record independently and when the coach reviews it. Coachtrax’s calendar, training records and messages can support that handover.

Compare a normal month

Put each option into your real calendar. Include travel, independent sessions, check-ins and the time you can spend recording activity. Then compare the actual package inclusions and payment terms.

Put it into practiceThere is no universal winner. Choose the format you can use consistently and discuss adjustments with the coach when your circumstances change.
